DF x CB

In order to shed light on some of the very talented artists CB works with, we introduce a new segment of our blog called “8 Questions.”
So, why not kick it off with good friend, world renown artist, and this season’s collaborator–

DAVID FLORES.

1. Why should we give a fuck about David Flores? (Asked in the utmost respect)

DF: *Blank stare* Ummmm…

2. Out of all the other brands and entities dying to work with you, why did you decide to work with Chubby Boob?

DF: I was kinda forced into it. Strong armed if you will…just like this interview.

3. Most people have come to know you for your iconic “stained glass” style portraits, murals, and vinyl toys. However, we know the scope of your artwork goes well beyond this. Can you tell us about how your artwork has evolved over the years including some noted under the radar projects in the past?

DF: Skateboard graphics, hundreds of them, skateboard wheels too…you see, thems mah roots. Skateboarding, I was actually art directing at deluxe when this so called stained glass style popped into existance…I was bored I wont lie, bored with punching the clock, needed an exit, out of frustration and feeling like at 27 I was done taking orders as far as what to draw and when…so I got fired on purpose and started doing the style you see now. I believe an artist HAS TO have a particular style to make it these days…no gimicks like a character, but a style…something you can apply to almost anything and it will read as that particular artists style…like myself or Kaws or Futura…Haring…anybody who’s had a style all they’re own…fuck biters too..did a bike with WBASE in Tokyo but it never came out. Only a sample. Who said that?

4. Word on the streets is that you’re a big bike snob, what has been your favorite bike owned up to date and why?

DF: Current snobby situation is a 95 COLNAGO DREAM PISTA. Mint!. Got it from Mitch and the Macaframa boys. I have a few bikes, but this one I’ve been riding a lot, rode home with ACE [TEAM CB's Team Manager] and TOTALLY smoked his ass up the hill to my pad! I was fixed, he was road, I had a backback with 32 bricks in it as well..no match!. Wheres he at?.. I also love my Cannondale track cause my girl acquired it for my birthday…let’s see, I’ve sold or gone through about 120 track bike since 1996.

5. Given the recent tensions between oil traders and regulators of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, how would you characterize the purported interconnection between physical oil prices and the prices of financial futures; mere happenstance or direct dependency?

DF: Well I kind of feel that if the regulators designed from an end user’s perspective and refined with input from major trading desks and leading energy firms worldwide, the most powerful energy trading solution for clients who manage trading functions and risk across the lifecycle of each trade. Channeling vital market information into a steady stream would enable traders to make precise, comprehensive, and timely decisions at any given point along the way. Therefore, eliminating any questions about the “what might” or “what might not” incur during any given trade cycle.

6. We understand you have several special talents including farting under the sheets, the ability to tell whether its hot or cold outside, and your ability to channel spirits. Can you elaborate? Haha.

DF: BRO! Ask my girl about the farts under the sheets! I’m fuckin pro! I can always tell the weather outside by adjusting my ball cap…and as far as channeling spirits, it’s more of a “I KNOW YOU’RE IN HERE” kinda thing…I don’t really spook easily, so I usually just start a conversation with them…even the evil ones..I’m like “So, what did u do today? Scare any kids?…”

7. What would be your dream project/collaboration? Don’t be afraid to say Justin Bieber, we don’t judge.

DF: I dunno..I would say a Medicom Bearbrick but I did like 7 of them already…if the space shuttle was still operating I’d like to put art all over it. Airplanes would be sick– I think Retna just did a jumbo jet plane’s tail.. pretty cool man!..

8. Lastly, what can we be looking out from David Flores in the near future?

DF: More of the same shit…but different.
